Business idea for teens! Anyone can do it!

I had this idea a few weeks back, without further ado, here it is!

Complete Car Maintenance Service!

We’ve all heard about washing cars for money, but why not go a step further?

1) Give it a Wax. A cheap spray on wax won’t cost much, but it will make the car look amazing.

2) Tyre Polish. The Tyre is often neglected when washing your cars, so get one of these foam tyre polishes and give them a few sprays. You’ll get that shiny showroom look in a few minutes!

3) Interior. Another often neglected part of a good car wash is the inside. Sure you might want the car to look nice on the outside for other people, but you’re the one who’s driving it everyday, and your family and friends are the ones who are sitting inside as well.

All you need is 2 cloths (1 dry 1 slightly damp) to wipe the dust off the door panels and ofcourse the dashboard.

And if available, bring along one of these portable/low powered vacuum! Focus especially on the cracks between seats, and the floor!

All the tools you need will fit nicely inside a bucket, which you can also use for water ofcourse!

Why

By providing all these extra touches, washing cars will no longer feel like boring and repetitive work to just make a few bucks. You will start to become proud of your work, every car you work on, you will want to make it look better than the last!

The other reason is more business related. One of the most important lessons I learnt in business is that, it isn’t always a good idea to lower the price. Sometimes it is much better to provide extra value instead.

The final reason is the product itself. The best kind of advertising is word of mouth, if you provide excellent service with excellent results, neighbours will start talking, Bob might ask Jane about how he got his car to look so good!

How

For these of you who have already made money car washing, then you can go off right away! But some people a bit too shy, and don’t know how-to approach their neighbors, either embarrassed or worried that nobody will want their services.

First of all, don’t be embarrassed, don’t think of it as asking people for “money”, think about providing them some excellent service and value, and in return you’ll get some value back. Tell them you’ll make their car look so good, all their neighbours will be jealous!

With the great service you provide, it’s not hard to charge around $10 per clean. Sure you’ll get some tight arses who don’t want their cars washed for money, but most people will love your initiative and enthusiasm and would be happy to help you out. If you can get 10 regulars every week, that’s $100 a week! And if you can rotate them around, so you’ll get back to them every month or 2, your all set!

Alternatives.

Why not setup shop in a parking lot? Now a full car wash with water going everywhere might be intrusive and get you thrown out by security, but why not just bring your wax and tyre polish to give the car a minor detail while the owners are shopping!

  1. Nice article, car washing is probably one of the best ways for young teens to really grasp business principles. Every kid needs to start somewhere, and what a great way to jump into the business world by washing cars, or mowing lawns. Glad to see your getting the word out!
